Current Scams

1) Be wary of unsolicited e-mails advertising an electronic greeting card. Valentines Day is being targeted to launch the STORM WORM malicious software virus. This virus is meant to facilitate spam e-mail, identity theft, denial of service attacks, and spreading this malware to other machines on the internet. The best advice is not to open e-mails where you do not know the sender. 2) Cyber criminals are generating e-mails alledgedly from the FBI, Department of Justice, Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, or the Better Business Bureau. These e-mails are bogus and meant for the unsuspecting to furnish information. THE FBI DOES NOT SEND E-MAILS TO PEOPLE UNDER INVESTIGATION. 3) There are e-mails, text messages, and telephone calls going to the unsuspecting requesting that they call an 800 number to reactivate an old credit card. Caller is asked to call the 800 number, punch in their credit card number and then they will be asked other personal identifiers. This will then set them up for the future scam. Some messages address victims and tell them that their active card is being suspended or deactivated. The victims, not wanting their valid card to be deactivated, call the 800 number.
